Discuss the way the author built suspens in the book. was it effective.

the way that the author built suspense in the book was very well done and it hade me not wanting to put the book down. it was very easy for him to do this becuse this is a true story and a very big part of U.S Navy SEAL history. I am reading Lone Surviver and it is about 4 Navy SEALs that go into Iran to fing and kill a known Al-Queada member that is the leader of making and smugling bombs for the terroist group to use. The suspens is made when local goat herders find them looking at a villaige from up in the moutians. After they let these men go they run and tell the Al-Queada and they send all there troops up to go and kill these four Navy SEALs. So there is alot of tension and suspense when these 4 men are fighting 200 men in a battle to the death. They have to use all there trainin and skills to survive.The more that the enemy closes in around the men the more suspense there is becuse there is more of a chance of these men dying and the reader does not want that to happen so when the enemy closes in it reallly puts you on the edge of your seat.

The True Story Of Operation Red Wing

Lone survivor by Marcus Luttrell is a truly moving and thought changing novel. It is about the author Marcus Luttrell and his three friends and fellow navy SEALs and there experience during operation red wing. Operation red wing is a mission to track down find and kill a man who has been supplying Al-Qaida with a lot of extremely powerful explosions. There is only one problem this man has anywhere from 80 to 200 men guarding him that will do anything to make sure that he stays alive. But Marcus and his teammates are SEALs so they can take on anything. Right?

The book starts out very slow. And multiple times I thought about putting it down wondering what all the hype about it was. But reading farther I now understand how important theses boring chapters where. They explain the history behind Al-Qaida and where they are from And what they have done. As it did feel a lot like history class it did make you slowly hate them for all of the terrible things this group of people had done. Luckily this does not last very long and soon jumps into Marcus and his path to becoming a navy SEAL.

This book has also been made into a movie. And as I think that this movie does do the book justice I think that reading the book is still a lot better than seeing the movie. The book is better because it gives you so much more. More of what you ask, well more of everything. It tells you more about Marcus and how he was training his whole life and how it does show some of this in the movie the book tells all of it witch really makes you appreciate what he has accomplished. Also it show the thoughts of Marcus during the mission witch really makes you understand how terrible it would be to be in his shoes.

I really enjoy all of the characters in this book. Because it really brought life to my thoughts of navy SEALS. I used to always think that these where just warriors and they are all jacked up brutal killing machines. This this book really showed me how they each have families and their own personality, and as they are very efficient at eliminating enemies of the United States of America they do it very smart and stealthy. It also shows how much brotherhood and trust goes along with being a navy SEAL. For example in one scene of the book Officer Mathew Axelson also known as Axe had been shot 3 times and was still fighting but obviously dying. He was the commanding officer of SEAL team six at the time and he would do anything to make sure the rest of his crew would survive. He knew that the only way to do this was to call for back up. He could not do this because they were pinned down in a cave and could not get a reception to headquarters so with his dying breaths he walked out into the open in front of all the enemy and called in back up getting shot and killed seconds after he made the call. Witch just shows how much these men would do for each other.

I also like the meaning that the book gives, or at least the one that I got from this book. I got that we humans are so much more capable than we think that we are. Also that everyone should have a code to live by and should always stick to it no matter how hard the times get.  If I had to give this book a grade using the classic school system of grading (A-F). I would give it a solid A. not an A+ because of the boring intro. But it definitely deserves and A because of the incite that it gives and how thrilling the ending is.   

                                         

 

 

 

 

 

I think that the villain in my book fits the stereotype very well and what makes it better is that they are all real people. My book is Lone Survivor and the villain or antagonist is the al Qaida witch is a terrorist group that is stationed near Pakistan.  It starts when the Americans bomb this group from their bases in the mountains as a response from the 9/11 attack. Al Qaida saw nothing wrong with the 9/11 attack but what they did think was wrong and unfair was the Americans attacking and taking their land from them. Then they become obsessed with getting back at the Americans and taking back there land that they start doing terrible things to achieve this. Some of these things include exploding hole town of people just to kill a few American soldiers in them and teaching kids from birth to hate Americans and telling them that if they blow themselves up and kill a few American soldiers that they will go to heaven. Also they are such good villains because they have learned how to manipulate American soldiers by using American media. You see American soldiers are not allowed to kill openly unarmed people or people that are not threats. Witch sounds good but Al Qaida manipulates these by sending people without guns to transfer a large amount of guns and explosives, and Americans cannot kill or arrest these men because they themselves are not armed and at that moment they pose no threat to the soldiers. Some soldiers have killed these men to stop them from delivering the enemy a lot of weapons and all these solders went straight to jail when they got back to America because when they did this America media explained it as them killing innocent kind civilians. So with them being so manipulating and cruel and evil you can see why the Al Qaida is one of the worst real word villains.

Are half-truths okay if it’s still a good story? Does it matter if Frey or other memorises bent the truth to tell their stories?
i believe that half truths are OK to an extent. For example When Frey said that he killed a girl in an accident even though he was not there i think that is not OK. I would have been OK if he said what he was doing when he herd about the accident if it affected him or even if he stretched the truth and said he was nearby and witnessed the accident when he didn't. Also i know that every story is stretched a little to make it that much more exiting and that much better of a story. For example when i went to Mexico on vacation i went cliff diving from 10 feet up into the ocean. I then came back and told my Friend that i dived from 20 feet up to make it sound more daring and exciting. I think i did this because during that time it felt like it was 20 feet and it felt like a very daring and exciting thing to do. but when i got home and was talking about it the words just did not do that memory justice. so i stretched the truth a little. Again i actually did go cliff diving and i actually experienced this so i think it is not OK when writers say something is true and this happened to them when they have never even experienced it so they have no clue what it is really like to do that thing.

I do think readicide is a problem at schools today. I think that it is a problem because the schools today are too focused on the test and it takes away from the book.  So I do believe that they are over teaching books. It really ruins books when we have to keep stopping and analyzing it. I don’t think that teachers should just let kids read the book then take a test on it but should group kids together that all read at the same pace. And let them all talk about the book to see what they each took from it. I think most of the books you read in school should be literary fiction because literary fiction is better for teaching kids book smarts like how to write and the proper way to do it and it is a lot easier to teach and test on most of the things taught in English class using literary fiction. But teacher should allow time to read what the students want because usually genre fiction teaches other things that literary fiction cant. Things that make you look at the world different. Sometimes the same book can teach two different readers two different things because it all depends on how you take it and process what the book is saying. So if you try to analyze genre fiction as a class and tell them what the book is trying to say then it will totally ruin the experience.  I do not like the idea of changing mice of men for twighlit and Macbeth for hunger games because those books teach things that are important but like I said earlier we should add new books not swap old ones out. The ones we should add are genre fiction that the students get to choose so that students don’t start to hate reading.    

Some challenges the filmmakers would face would be showing how number four really feels because most of the parts of the book that represent how he feels about the situation he is currently in would translate into a pretty boring scene on the big screen. because most of them are him sitting there and thinking things over in his head and i don't think movie goers want to see someone sit there in silence thinking about things. one thing that the filmmakers must incorporate is when number four meets Sarah and there relationship throughout the story because that relationship really effects how the plot unfolds later in the book. Another thing they would need to keep is part where number four gets the mysterious letters and when the Mongolians show up. The third thing they would need to keep is all the other action scenes because that usually tends to make a good movie.
One thing the filmmakers should probably take out is most of the training that he does everyday. They should put a little of it in the movie to show the viewers what he is doing but only show it once not everyday like they do in the book. Another thing they should take out is when mark and his Friends jump number four and he fends them off because this does not really add to the story in any way except put a little more action in it. the last thing that they should take out is the long road trip number four and Henri make up to Ohio they should just show when they get there and not the hole drive like they do in the book.
